There is a beautiful store called “Studio Fabrics” located at 12 O’Connell Street Sydney 2000. Exclusive in bridal and evening fabrics from around the world, especially from Italy and France. Dawn S. writes: Hello, I would like to tell you about a great shop in Mittagong. It is basically curtain and soft furnishing fabrics, but there is a great range and the staff are really helpful. They also make curtains, supply rods and tracks and also sell ready-made curtains. They will also take orders to make specific things, if you don’t want to do the hard work, like cushions, throws, table clothes etc. Worth the drive to the Southern Highlands, enjoy a coffee and the atmosphere. There’s a high end bridal/after five shop Saigon Fabrics, at 78 Erskine street, Sydney ( also behind Wynyard Station) The Sydney suburb of Burwood has Vicson Fabrics in the Burwood Plaza, 42 Railway parade. They have a great range of fold over elastics and ruffled elastic ( for necklines). Not a huge range but very useful.

Drummoyne- Birkenhead Pt Shopng Cntr . 2047 CABRAMATTA – multiple shops catch the train or drive. lots of shops packed with fabric. Usually no labels with care instructions or fibre content. Bargaining is a must, they will almost always reduce their prices when asked.

They are behind the Pennant Hills Hotel across the road from the railway station. Their phone no is (02) 9980 8966. They also carry a hugh range of Patchwork fabrics. at Parramatta is great for nice but inexpensive fabrics as well. Silksational www.silksational.com.au – both online shopping and a factory store to visit at Unit 11/179-183 Woodpark Road, Smithfield. Phone: 02 9756 6554. Lots of great priced silks and other fabrics, and all that you need to then dye fabrics to your desired colours. Sylvia the owner is really helpful and so knowledgeable about how to achieve the best result. It’s one of those stores that the more you look the more hidden gems you will find. Worth a look.
Hi, one important one missing on the list is The Fabric Store, 21 Cooper St, Surry Hills NSW. (02) 9211 2217 They do end of designer runs and imported dress fabrics, with a huge variety that is constantly being added to. They get end of season fabrics from Australian designers like Lisa Ho, Scanlan and Theodore, and Tigerlilly. The staff are all lovely and willing to help, giving samples and advice. They have great sales a few times a year and they give student discounts as well. Definitely worth a visit, I’m always going back for more fabric. !!!!
