My entry in the Print and Plain Sewing Competition by Kim.
A steep learning curve – Not to rush, take care and sew in ” the moment “……
I found this sewing pattern a few years ago and attempted it then with not much success as this was pre ‘Designer stitch’ days where I thought pins and measuring accurately was over-rated!!
Hence I used a rubbish zip which broke when I first put it on and the fit and stitching was much less than perfect. I have still kept it as loved the fabric and could’nt bring myself to just throw it out!
Moving forward a couple of years I hadn’t lost my desire to make this skirt but had lost the pattern so spent time searching the internet for the pattern and bought it on-line in a PDF form this time – http://www.makeitperfect.com.au/MIP/A+_Skirts.html
After completing my first sewing class skirt, I thought I would use my new skills and try the skirt pattern again with my own twist of course. I found a great fabric at GJ’s in Brunswick and had to use it and thought it would look great with denim in this skirt.
I am still fearful of zips and thought I would adjust the pattern and just use a small elastic band in the back of the skirt instead and it works perfectly.
I love the new ‘top stitch’ stitch I have discovered on my machine 19 years after I got it!!!
I then a few weeks later thought I would try the pattern with a pocket – not with as much success – I think I still need some sewing guidance for that next time.
Here are photos of myself wearing each of the skirts.
Fingers crossed that people love my ideas of using pattern and plain fabrics in the print and plain sewing competition!
